How to Prepare for a Mobile Vet Visit: Tips for a Smooth Appointment
At Oliver Mobile Veterinary Services, we love working with clients who are proactive about their animals’ care. Whether your pets are curled up on the couch or your horses are grazing in the pasture, our goal is the same—keeping them healthy, comfortable, and safe.
To help each appointment run smoothly, here are a few simple ways you can prepare for your mobile vet visit.
Why It Matters: Mobile Vet Visits Are Different
A mobile appointment brings care to your doorstep, which can make things more convenient and less stressful for your animals. But it also means preparation is key so we can work efficiently and safely in your space.
This guide outlines how to prepare for a mobile vet visit so your pet, your vet, and your time are all well cared for.
What You Can Do to Help Before and During the Visit
1. Have Dogs and Cats Contained and Ready
• For cats: Place them in a secure carrier or small room before we arrive• For dogs: Keep a leash nearby and make sure they’re in a safe, contained areaThis helps us get started quickly and keeps everyone safe during the exam.
2. Prepare Horses Ahead of Time
• Have your horse haltered and ready in a stall, paddock, or small pen• Ensure they are reasonably clean and dry for a safe, efficient examination
3. Gather Medical Records and Notes
• Have information about your animal’s health history available• Let us know if they’ve been seen at another clinic—we can help gather records before the visit
4. If Someone Else Is Present, Keep Them Informed
• Make sure they understand the animal’s medical background, habits, and your concerns• If you can’t be present, try to stay available by phone
5. Have Medications or Supplements on Hand
• We may need to verify dosages or adjust treatment plans• Keep all current meds in a place where they’re easy to access during the visit
6. Share What You’ve Noticed
• You know your animals best. If you’ve observed anything new—behavior changes, appetite issues, limping—tell us• Let us know what you want to discuss during the appointment
7. Ask Questions
• If something doesn’t make sense or feels unclear, ask. We want you to feel confident in your animal’s care
8. Request Extra Resources
• We’re happy to provide handouts, how-to guides, or links to trusted online resources tailored to your concerns
9. Follow the Plan
• After the visit, follow through on recommendations. If anything changes, we’re just a phone call away
Why This Matters
Being prepared helps us focus more time on what really matters—your animals. It allows us to deliver high-quality veterinary care in a low-stress setting, right at your home or barn.
